Uniform

Back in summer of 2018, SPC adopted the Uniform room of Old Police Station, Deptford, where we continue with subscriber project development and community network support.

After a decade maintaining the OPS network infrastructure for Temporary Contemporary and the artists there we enjoy the delights of this great space on the second floor which we hope to hold until the building closes for inevitable refurbishment. The haul of SPC equipment, tools and media library dragged up those stairs have all been rounded up from from basements and backrooms of the area where they were stored during the quick exodus from Borough Hall.

It’s been a good opportunity to review 20 years of collected titles, ephemera and tools, to sort the cables, computer parts and AV equipment into shape. It’s less than a quarter size of Deckspace so a secondary storeroom along the corridor has provided sorting and holding space. The police station itself remains relatively untouched since the police built and then moved into their new accommodation right next door over a decade ago. Over 40 studio spaces including five 20ft containers in the yard are each interlinked and served broadband access over structured cable network for Ethernet access to fast independent broadband connection from Redraw Internet.
